During my college days, I (like so many of my fellow students) tended bar for spending money, usually for a weekend's supply of beer. Nutritionists tell us breakfast is the most important meal of the day. All food groups should be represented in that first meal, and it should be the largest of our sittings each day. I like the breakfast meal, and I’d never argue with a nutritionist. When I was cooking professionally, the breakfast/brunch buffets always were my favorite meals to serve . . . omelet stations with the usual vegetable and cheese additions, but also the smoked salmon and caviar choices, too; the peppercorn crusted roast tenderloin carving stations; the raw bar; and, so many other features.

    I recently conducted a seminar, with my colleague, Josiah Cole, on writing for the web. We don’t often have so many guests to our offices, and thought we should help them feel as welcomed and honored guests. We wanted to feed their body as well as their minds, and thought a baked good would be appropriate, as well as coffee and fresh fruit.
